Case: Dubbing, voice-over, and lip-sync work with Honored Artist of Russia Oleg Metelev for the short fiction film “UAR.”

Director: Maxim Bogdanov.

Client: Max Sharkmann Films.

Genre: Drama, historical film.

Task:
Record Oleg Metelev’s lines in the studio while preserving the actor’s character, intonation, and performance nuances as accurately as possible.

The film covers historical events in Russia at the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century, connected with Tsarevich Dmitry of Uglich — from his death to his canonization in 1606. It presents a version of his escape and ascent to the throne as False Dmitry, reconstructed from the diaries of the Polish noblewoman Marina Mniszek as a possible historical scenario. The film focuses primarily on depicting the world through the eyes of a child and his surroundings, using elements of Symbolist art.

“UAR” is a historical reconstruction of significant dramatic events in Russia at the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century.

In addition to the still-unclear meanings behind these “canvases,” there are also untold stories that contain reflections on sinfulness. Capable of revealing the essence of human existence, they remain highly relevant today. One such story is that of Tsarevich Dmitry of Uglich, and I present variations of a possible historical event.
