Case: Sound design, mixing, and mastering of 2.1 and 5.1 versions of the documentary film “Soyuz”, dedicated to the thirtieth anniversary of the fishing association "Union of Northern Fishery Enterprises." Scriptwriter and director: Svetlana Bokova. Duration: 48 minutes.
Client: Documentary Film Studio "Rek.A", Murmansk.
Task:
From the rough audio edit of the full-length documentary “Soyuz”, assemble several final versions for distribution across various platforms in accordance with the technical requirements of each platform:
For placement on various online platforms.
For theatrical screenings at film festivals in Russia.
From the stereo version of the film, create a surround sound (5.1) version for full cinema screenings in theaters equipped with Dolby® Surround systems.
Solution:
The AAF project was converted and synchronized with the rough cut of the film. All audio tracks were leveled to uniform loudness parameters. Certain crucial narrative phrases were cleaned of extraneous noise and repositioned within the sound space.
For full viewer immersion, SFX were added, both produced in-house and sourced externally.
Dynamic and spatial processing of voices and environmental sounds was applied, depending on the scene’s space and the director’s preferences.
Final mixing and mastering in 2.1 and 5.1 formats were completed in accordance with the technical requirements of the EBU R 128 standard and Dolby® Surround.
The film premiered at a large-scale event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the "Union of Northern Fishery Enterprises."
