Case:
Voice-over, mixing, and mastering for the feature-length documentary film “THE LAST MAMMOTH.”

Director: Andrey Timoshchenko.

Client: SOVA Film Studio.

Task:
Using the multitrack rough sound edit of the documentary “THE LAST MAMMOTH,” assemble several final versions for distribution in accordance with each platform’s technical requirements:

  • For streaming platforms and television channels

  • For theatrical screenings at film festivals across Russia

Synopsis:
Far in the north, on the Taimyr Peninsula—well beyond any major settlements—flows the Popigai River. On its banks lies the small reindeer-herding village of Novy Popigai. Its inhabitants belong to a small, disappearing northern Indigenous group known as the Dolgans.
Life in these lands is a constant struggle for survival. The foundation of Dolgan life and culture—reindeer herding—is now under threat of extinction: northern reindeer have been struck by a mysterious epidemic.

Solution:

  • All audio tracks were normalized to unified loudness parameters. Several key meaningful lines were cleaned of extraneous noise and placed in an alternate acoustic space.

  • To fully immerse the viewer in the narrative, SFX were added—both original and third-party.

  • Layering and sound “framing” techniques were applied: volume adjustments were made depending on the character’s shot size, and spatial processing was applied to voices and ambience according to each scene’s environment.

  • Final mixing and mastering were completed in compliance with the technical requirements of each platform. The documentary “The Last Mammoth” won the Alania Film Festival award for Best Feature Film (fiction, documentary, or experimental category).
