Case: Sound Design, Mixing, and Mastering of the Documentary Film “Murman SeaFood.” Scriptwriter and Director: Svetlana Bokova. Duration: 108 minutes.

The film chronicles the journey from a single trawler to a full-fledged seafood company with its own fleet, onshore factories, and distribution network. Through experiments, losses, mistakes, and achievements, “Murman SeaFood” celebrates 25 years of development—reflecting the past, present, and likely the future. The company also addresses the perennial question: “Where’s the fish?” and why it can never, under any circumstances, be worth next to nothing.

Client: Documentary Film Studio “Rek.A,” Murman SeaFood Company

Objective:
From the rough audio edit of the full-length documentary “Murman SeaFood,” produce several final audio versions suitable for distribution across various platforms:

  • For streaming on online platforms.

  • For theatrical screenings at film festivals in Russia.

  • From the stereo version, create a surround sound version (5.1) for full cinema playback in theaters equipped with Dolby® Surround systems, and for screenings at international film festivals, in compliance with the technical requirements of cinemas.

Solution:

  • The AAF project was converted and synchronized with the rough cut of the film. All audio tracks were normalized to consistent loudness levels. Key narrative phrases were cleaned of extraneous noise and repositioned in the soundscape.

  • To fully immerse viewers in the events, SFX were added, both custom-made and sourced externally.

  • Dynamic and spatial processing of voices and ambient sounds was applied according to the scene’s environment and the director’s preferences.

  • Final mixing and mastering were completed in 2.1 and 5.1 formats, in accordance with EBU R 128 standards and Dolby® Surround requirements.
