New Tool – New Opportunities!
No matter how bright the minds, how grand the ideas, or how skilled the hands, true miracles begin when modern technical means are added to all of the above. Our professional eagerness for the latest filming equipment and relentless desire to create truly outstanding video content prompted us to make a new acquisition! Now our equipment fleet includes a new tool — the DJI Ronin 4D.
The DJI Ronin 4D was created specifically for cinematographers and, upon its release, immediately received numerous top ratings from professionals worldwide. It has been called everything from “the greatest achievement in digital technology of the 21st century,” to “the dawn of a new era in filmmaking,” and “the most advanced cinema camera ever created.”
So, what is this marvelous device that has joined our technical arsenal?
The DJI Ronin 4D is a comprehensive stabilized camera system combining a brand-new full-frame Zenmuse X9 gimbal camera, a 4-axis stabilization system, a LiDAR focusing system, and a high-speed video transmission and control system. Simply put, now there is no need to assemble, prepare, and adjust multiple separate devices before shooting. Everything is already integrated into one sleek body made from carbon fiber and an aluminum-magnesium alloy. Moreover, unlike many professional steadicams, the entire compact DJI Ronin 4D system weighs only 4.67 kg without a lens. Speaking of lenses, we have a full set available: 9, 18, 24, 35, and 50 mm lenses.
The stabilization system is a story of its own. We tested our Ronin thoroughly — shaking, rotating, spinning, and swinging it — yet the image remained stable and smooth. This is because the device features 4-axis stabilization. More precisely, to the usual 3-axis DJI system, a fourth Z-axis was added to reduce vertical vibrations. Furthermore, in addition to these four axes, the system includes a lower ToF sensor, dual front and bottom video sensors, built-in IMU, and barometers. The result is absolute smoothness combined with remarkable compactness.
What does this mean for our clients? Reduced shooting costs and saved time: with the DJI Ronin 4D, there is no need for additional camera equipment and technical tools like rails, dollies, carts, or cranes. Everything is simple and fast!
We were deeply impressed by the focusing system. The latest innovation — the LiDAR rangefinder — continuously performs precise measurements using lasers, allowing for faster, more accurate, and more reliable focusing. Instant focus even in the most dynamic and unpredictable scenes — the Ronin never “loses sight” of the target. This function is truly indispensable for documentary filming and situations where the operator has no chance for a second take. The technology enables “locking onto” and tracking an object using the stabilizer without losing autofocus.
In general, we are very happy with our new tool and gladly use it for producing various video content — shooting video clips, promotional films, interviews, and scripted scenes. It has made the filming process even more enjoyable!
First, we no longer need to assemble a large set of filming equipment, which significantly reduces both preparation and shooting time. Second, our new tool combines the functions of several specialists, meaning fewer crew members on set, fewer approvals, and less of the dreaded “human factor.” Third, its brilliant capabilities greatly reduce the number of unsuccessful takes. Fourth, the shooting process has become more efficient, creative ideas are immediately realized, and this instantly inspires even more interesting solutions.
